First group of Emergency care staff trainings gets certificates

In January 25, USAID HS-STAR project Chief of Party Robert Hagan awarded certificates to the computer skills enhancement trainings 30 participants from ”Ambulance” CJSC’s medical and administrative staff, who have successfully completed the courses. From December 2 HS-STAR project has initiated trainings for ”Ambulance” CJSC’s medical and administrative staff. The aim of the trainings is to provide corresponding knowledge and computer skills about new dispatcher automated system, to improve the existing skills and prepare the emergency care staff for using the upcoming system. The training is conducted by HS-STAR hired “CHS Verisel Service” organization.

Trainings coordinator Heriknaz Archunts explains, “During the first stage of the trainings the trainees learn general computer skills, particularly fast touch typing skills, which is essential for emergency staff. Later, the participants will also learn how to use more complicated dispatcher system software.” Overall, 30 administrative employees and 78 despatchers of ”Ambulance” CJSC will participate in these training courses. The second group will complete the courses in late February, and the last, third group – in March.

During the ceremony, HS-STAR COP stressed the significance of computer knowledge in the contemporary world, “To be in tune with current trends, the emergency care staff has to be quite skilled in using various computer programs and software. This is especially important for you, as you very soon are going to operate an advanced emergency dispatch system.” The director of ”Ambulance” CJSC Taguhi Stepanyan, herself a training participant, thanked HS-STAR project for providing this opportunity, “We appreciate the continuous efforts to enhance the computer skills of emergency care administrative and medical staff. Emergency service has vital importance for population, and the modernization of this system is a key for successful emergency service.”

The head of Nork information-analytical center Hayk Chobanyan, Yerevan Municipality Health care department and “CHS Verisel Service” organization representatives also spoke about the benefits of the courses. Margarit Karapetyan, “Ambulance” dispatcher service head, has been one of the active participants of the courses. “I not only acquired knew computer knowledge, but also enhanced my previously acquired skills. I am sure this knowledge will be indispensable for carrying out our future activities,” gladly explained Mrs Karapetyan.

USAID HS-STAR project tangibly supports the Ministry of Health in the process of modernizing the emergency care service in Armenia. In particular, in 2012 a new automated dispatcher system will be introduced creating emergency dispatcher centers in Yerevan and marzes, which will be equipped with special dispatcher computer software and modern technologies corresponding to high international standards. At the end of the whole process, the Armenian emergency service will function according to its Western counterparts’ standards.
