Each year, on February 4th, the world commemorates the World Cancer Day. On this occasion, USAID’s HS-STAR project, in coordination with Armenia MOH, initiated a health talk devoted to reproductive cancer prevention and early detection issues, through the live TV program, entitled: “Let’s Start Again”. The live program was broadcasted on February 4, 2012, by ”Kentron’’ TV Station, Armenia. The program was organized within the framework of the Public Educational activities of the project aiming to increase population awareness on priority health-related areas. In this respect, the project is supporting MOH efforts, including reproductive cancer prevention/early detection issues.
HS-STAR’s MCH/RH/FP Advisor Gohar Panajyan was the guest speaker of the program. She discussed a broad array of issues including world and Armenia-specific situation regarding breast and cervical cancer, risk factors and risk behaviors, the importance of prevention and early detection and the screening/early detection methods available nowadays. She prioritized the necessity of periodic preventative visits by women and provided information on government-supported preventative services. The health talk was intermittently complemented by live telephone calls from population who had a chance to ask questions and receive answers from the guest speaker on the subject topics.
